Background Information

-->Unit-00 is the prototype, Unit-01 is test type, and Unit-02 is the final production model. Unit-02 was made for the actual combat, while the previous two were the prototype and test type models. Designed and built in Germany, Unit-02's design is to be used for future Evangelion productions. It means that it is state of the art. And indeed it is. It has never gone berserk and is known to do very well in combat. And that is what makes Asuka so proud of it.

Eva Unit-02 has four eyes on the front of its head, and, compared to the previous two Evas, it has had the least problems, as far as test activations, and how well it has done in combat. Also, Unit-02 is painted red, which is quite unique. Unit-02 is known well for its progression knife, also know as the prog knife, that is uses most of he time. Unit-01 uses one as well.

The Production Model possesses Kyouko Sohryu Zeppelin's (Asuka's Mother) soul. Supposively, an Evangelion requires it's own soul as well as a human soul within it also to function. And Evas 00 and 01 do too. During an activation test, there was a mistake and Kyouko blamed herself for it. She even commited suicide. Since she was one of the most commited people to the Evangelion, they took her soul and placed it in Unit-02. Unit-00 possesses Ritsuko Akagi's Mother's soul, and Unit-01 possesses Yui Ikari's soul(Gendou Ikari's wife; Shinji's Mother).

Unit-02 fought its first battle out at sea. It was being shipped over-seas to Japan from Germany. The Evangelion, along with the UN's fleet of ships, was attacked by the 6th Angel. Unit-02 was forced to be activated, thus being the first recorded underwater battle between an Angel and an Eva. Later, however, in combat against the 16th angel, Unit-02 had its arm and head sliced off by the enemy, who was much bigger and stronger than the Evas. They repaired Unit-02, but Asuka's confidence was completely shattered. She was unable to pilot her Eva anymore.

With this, NERV had to find another pilot for Unit-02. And so they dubbed Kaworu Nagisa as the pilot of Unit-02. Later on, however (In EoE), Asuka recovered from her coma, and was able to pilot Unit-02 again. When the Angels tried to attack NERV, she fought them. And she fought very well. She kicked major ASS!! She completly beat the crap out of the Angels. But she eventually was defeated. The Angels used the Lance of Longinus to defeat her. They threw the Lance and it went through Unit-02's head. Helpless, Unit-02 just sat there with the Sacred Spear stabbed through its head. The Angels devoured the Eva.

Weapons Used

Even though they say that the Evangelions are designed for hand-to-hand combat, they actually use weapons. This is a quick overview of the weapons that Eva Unit-02 uses throughout the series.

The Progressive Knife: Also known as the Prog-Knife, this is the weapon that Unit-02 uses most of the time, as well as the other Evas. It is a very sharp vibrating blade that is made of expensive metals. The progressive knife is located in a compartment right above the Unit's arm.

Spear: The spear was used an a battle against Israfel (the 7th Angel). It was a good weapon that they attempted to use, but it proved to not be a good enough one, so later developed the Battle Axe.

Battle Axe: Although Unit-02 wasn't able to use it, the Battle Axe was a very good weapon. With a very sharp blade, almost as as sharp as the prog-knife, this axe could cut through Angels indeed. It was a later modification to the Spear, proven more effective and more capable.
